Govindarajan Appakkannu has been appointed as Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO), NLC India limited (NLCIL), Neyveli on 16 September 2023. He is a 2000 batch Indian Postal Service (IPoS) officer.
Appakkannu has a rich experience of over 22 years in the field of vigilance, administration, and human resources. He has held various important positions in the Indian Postal Service, including Deputy Chief Postmaster General (Vigilance), Chief Postmaster General (Tamil Nadu Circle), and Postmaster General (Vigilance). He has also served as the Director (Vigilance) of the Postal Directorate.
Appakkannu is a highly qualified and experienced officer. He holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and a Master’s degree in Law from the University of Madras. He is also a Certified Fraud Examiner.
Appakkannu’s appointment as CVO of NLCIL is a welcome step. His vast experience and expertise in the field of vigilance will be invaluable in strengthening the company’s vigilance system and preventing any irregularities.
NLC India Limited (NLCIL) is a public sector undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Coal, Government of India. It is the largest lignite mining company in India and accounts for over 60% of the country’s lignite production. NLCIL also generates thermal power from lignite and has a total installed capacity of 4,713 MW.
The Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) is the highest authority responsible for vigilance in a PSU. The CVO is responsible for detecting, investigating, and preventing irregularities and corruption in the PSU. The CVO also plays an important role in advising the PSU on vigilance matters and ensuring compliance with the vigilance guidelines of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).
