IPS Kishan Sahay

Following this incident, the Election Commission took it seriously and instructed the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) of Rajasthan, in a letter dated November 11, to suspend him immediately.

Kishan Sahay Meena had been deployed as a police observer for the Jharkhand Assembly elections, specifically for the Gumla district’s 67-Sisai, 68-Gumla, and 69-Bishunpur constituencies. The Election Commission had directed him to remain in his designated area from the last day of filing nominations and to monitor all election-related activities. However, on October 28, without permission from the Election Commission, Sahay left his duty and returned to Jaipur. The Election Commission considered this a serious violation of service rules and took the action of suspending him.

Letter from the Election Commission to the Chief Secretary:

The Election Commission sent a letter to the Chief Secretary of Rajasthan, informing him that Kishan Sahay Meena was appointed as a police observer for the Jharkhand Assembly elections. His unnotified departure disrupted the election process. According to the Election Commission, police observers are appointed under the Constitution of India, and their role during elections is crucial. Therefore, Sahay’s negligence was seen as indiscipline, leading to his suspension.

Kishan Sahay’s History of Controversies:

This is not the first time Kishan Sahay has been involved in controversies. He has previously attracted attention due to his controversial comments and working style. At one point, he made a religious remark saying, “What is described in religious texts is merely a matter of imagination.” His statement led to widespread controversy, and the administration had to respond to the criticism.

Career of IPS Officer Kishan Sahay:

Kishan Sahay is a promoted IPS officer who took charge in 2013. In August 2013, he was appointed as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Tonk district but was transferred to the Ajmer GRP in January 2014. After serving there for a year, he was made Awaiting Posting Orders (APO) due to administrative reasons. After about six months in the APO status, he was posted as SP in the CID-CB, where he served for over four years. He was later assigned as the DIG of the Armed Battalion at the Police Headquarters, and eventually rose to the rank of IG.

In 2023, Sahay was appointed as the IG of the Human Rights department, but due to his irregularities and controversies, he has now been suspended once again.

Through this suspension, the Election Commission has made it clear that adherence to duties during elections will be strictly enforced, and any form of indiscipline will not be tolerated.
