Top Customs officials elevated to apex roles

In a significant reshuffle within the Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Indirect Taxes), the Government has promoted a set of senior officers to leadership positions for the Panel Year 2025.

Rajeev Gupta and Simmi Jain have been appointed as Principal Chief Commissioner / Principal Director General of Customs & Indirect Taxes—one of the highest posts in the hierarchy. Their elevation reflects years of dedicated service, administrative acumen, and strategic leadership within the department.

Joining them in this wave of promotions, Paul Rajendra Lakra and Ramavath Srinivasa Naik have been elevated to the rank of Chief Commissioner of Customs & Indirect Taxes. Further strengthening the senior leadership pool, M R R Reddy and Sandeep M S Puri have also been promoted to the Chief Commissioner grade, albeit on an ad-hoc basis.

These appointments signal a renewed focus on reinforcing top-tier leadership to drive customs reform, revenue growth, and enhanced governance in indirect taxation across the country.
