Senior bureaucrat Rajesh Kumar Singh officially assumed the role of Defence Secretary on Friday. A 1989-batch IAS officer from the Kerala cadre, Singh took over at the South Block, the headquarters of the Ministry of Defence. Prior to his appointment, he honored the sacrifices of fallen heroes by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial.
Singh had previously served as officer on special duty (Defence Secretary-designate) since August 20.
