Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has acquired MEL Power Transmission Ltd, an SPV aimed at evacuating power from Mahan Energen’s 2×600 MW Generation Station in Madhya Pradesh. The Rs. 558 crore project includes a 400 kV double-circuit transmission line and bay extensions at Rewa substation.
Acquired from PFC Consulting Ltd, the project will operate on a BOOT basis. As of May 2025, POWERGRID manages 283 substations, over 1.80 lakh ckm of transmission lines, and a transformation capacity of 5.64 lakh MVA, maintaining a system availability of more than 99.85% through cutting-edge automation and digital technologies.
