The Government has appointed renowned economist Poonam Gupta as the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a three-year term. Her appointment comes just ahead of the upcoming monetary policy meeting, highlighting her expertise in monetary and fiscal policy research.
Gupta replaces Michael Patra, who previously oversaw the monetary policy department, with his tenure concluding on January 14.
Currently serving as the Director General of the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), Gupta is also a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister and the convenor of the advisory council to the 16th Finance Commission.
