PM Modi Inaugurates THDC’s First Thermal Power Project

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a landmark occasion by inaugurating the first unit (660 MW) of THDC India Limited’s debut thermal venture — the 1320 MW Khurja Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) — situated in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh.

This project represents THDC’s strategic evolution beyond its hydropower roots, venturing boldly into the thermal energy sector. The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of this achievement in his address, highlighting its impact on strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s energy infrastructure and driving industrial growth.

The Khurja STPP’s foundation stone was laid by PM Modi in 2019, and its timely commissioning stands as a testament to THDCIL’s dedication to execution excellence and nation-building. With this 660 MW unit operational, THDCIL’s total installed capacity now jumps from 1587 MW to 2247 MW.

The project underscores the joint ownership of THDC by NTPC Limited and the Government of Uttar Pradesh. The inaugural event witnessed the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, among other dignitaries.
