NLC India secures composite licence for Phosphorite and Limestone blocks in Chhattisgarh

NLC India Limited (NLCIL), a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Coal, has secured Composite Licence for the Semhardih and Raipura Phosphorite & Limestone Blocks in Balod district of Chhattisgarh, marking a major step in its strategic diversification and mineral resource expansion.

Issued by the Mineral Resources Department, Government of Chhattisgarh on April 24, 2026, the licence authorizes NLCIL to undertake detailed geological exploration of both mineral blocks. This achievement follows NLCIL’s successful bid as Preferred Bidder during the Ministry of Mines’ Tranche-V auction held on May 27, 2025.

With the completion of all required formalities, including Performance Security submission and Scheme of Prospecting, NLCIL is now positioned to assess valuable mineral reserves that can support critical sectors such as fertilizers and cement.

Chairman and Managing Director Prasanna Kumar Motupalli stated that the milestone reflects NLCIL’s long-term commitment to responsible resource development, strategic mineral security, and India’s broader vision of self-reliance under Atmanirbhar Bharat. The move also complements NLCIL’s expanding renewable energy portfolio and sustainable growth strategy.
