Cabinet appoints new members to Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT)

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has announced significant appointments to strengthen the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT). Four Judicial Members and twelve Administrative Members have been appointed for a tenure of four years or until they reach the age of 67, whichever comes first.

Judicial Members:
The newly appointed Judicial Members bring vast legal expertise to CAT:

  • Justice Harnaresh Singh Gill, a former Punjab & Haryana High Court judge, renowned for his deep understanding of complex legal matters.
  • Justice Padmaraj Nemachandra Desai, a former Karnataka High Court judge, known for his judicial integrity and prudence.
  • Rajveer Singh Verma, Additional Secretary in the Department of Legal Affairs, offering a robust mix of legal and administrative acumen.
  • Veena Kothavale, Additional Secretary in the Legislative Department, recognized for her legislative and legal expertise.

Administrative Members:
The Administrative Members bring diverse expertise across governance, policy, and administration:

  • Anjali Bhawra (IAS: 1988: PB), Secretary to the National Commission for Minorities, known for her policy implementation skills.
  • Anjani Nandan Sharan (IFoS: 1985: BH), a former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, with vast environmental and administrative experience.
  • Hukum Singh Meena (IAS: 1992: BH), former Additional Secretary in the Department of Land Resources, with expertise in land management.
  • Jaya Verma Sinha (IRTS: 1986), Chairman & CEO of the Railway Board, brings extensive transport and infrastructure experience.
  • M L Srivastava (IFoS: 1989: Sikkim), previously Additional Chief Secretary for Tourism in Sikkim, offers insights into tourism development.

Other appointees include Mallika Arya, Pragya Sahay Saksena, Ram Mohan Johri, Sangam Narain Srivastava, Santosh Mehra, Sisir Kumar Ratho, and V Rama Mathew, each contributing unique expertise from their fields.

This strategic move aims to enhance CAT’s capacity to address administrative and legal issues effectively, promoting greater efficiency in its operations.
