Heritage Reborn: NBCC Breathes New Life into Bungalow No. 1, Janpath Road, New Delhi, in Just 3.5 Months

  • A 1930 ‘s landmark, lovingly restored and handed over for the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh

In a remarkable blend of speed, skill and sensitivity, NBCC (India) Limited, a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, has breathed new life into Bungalow No. 1, Janpath Road, New Delhi. The holistically upgraded residence was handed over on 22nd October 2026 for Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The transformation was completed in just 3.5 months, at a cost of approximately Rs. 6.5 crore.

Built in the 1930’s, the bungalow had witnessed nearly a century of the capital’s history, and time had left its structure dilapidated. The challenge was as delicate as it was demanding: to restore its strength without erasing its soul. NBCC rose to the task through meticulously planned retrofitting, reinforcing the structure while faithfully preserving the architectural and heritage features that define its character.

Today, the bungalow stands transformed, a graceful meeting of past and future. Its heritage aesthetics now sit alongside elegant modern interiors, sustainable net-zero concepts and lush green landscaping, creating a residence that honours its timeless character while embracing the comforts of contemporary living.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, warmly appreciated NBCC’s work, particularly its success in preserving the bungalow’s heritage charm while seamlessly weaving in modern amenities.

“Every heritage building carries a story, and restoring one demands both engineering precision and deep respect for its history. Bringing this landmark back to life in just three and a half months is a testament to the dedication of Team NBCC and our unwavering commitment to quality and timely delivery,” said Dr. K.P. Mahadevaswamy, CMD, NBCC.

This achievement adds another proud chapter to NBCC’s legacy of redevelopment, restoration and upgradation works for government clients across the nation, proof that the past can be preserved even as the future is built.
