Chhattisgarh reassigns nearly 24 IPS officers in sweeping Police Leadership reshuffle

The Chhattisgarh government has undertaken a major overhaul of its police administration by issuing transfer and posting orders for around two dozen IPS officers. The extensive reshuffle covers senior positions across the Police Headquarters (PHQ), Inspector General (IG) ranges, Special Armed Force (SAF) battalions, and district police units, signalling the state’s continued emphasis on strengthening policing and administrative efficiency.

The latest exercise has brought fresh leadership to several key formations, including Rajnandgaon, Bastar, Naya Raipur and multiple district police headquarters.

Major IPS Transfers:

  • Ajay Kumar Yadav, who was serving as Director of the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose State Police Academy, Chandkhuri, has been appointed Inspector General, Rajnandgaon Range.
  • Balaji Rao Somavar has been shifted from IG, Rajnandgaon Range, to Inspector General, Police Headquarters, Naya Raipur.
  • Prashant Kumar Agrawal, earlier heading the Bastar Range, has also been posted as Inspector General, Police Headquarters.
  • The state government has appointed Prashant Kumar Thakur and Ramkrishna Sahu as Deputy Inspector General, PHQ, Naya Raipur.
  • Dharmendra Chhabai has been assigned as Commandant, 8th Battalion, Special Armed Force, Rajnandgaon, while Shweta Rajmani will serve as DIG, SAF, Jagdalpur.
  • Rajesh Kukreja takes over as DIG, PHQ, whereas Bhavna Gupta and Ravi Kumar Kurre have been posted as Additional Inspector General, PHQ.
  • Suraj Singh Parihar has been named Commandant, 4th Battalion, SAF, Mana (Raipur).

District Police Leadership Revamped:

Several districts have also received new Superintendents of Police.

Sunil Sharma has been appointed SP, Sarangarh-Bilaigarh, while Chandramohan Singh will head the police force in Dantewada.

The government has also posted Harish Rathore to Koriya, Bhawna Pandey to Dhamtari, Trilok Bansal to Bemetara, Jitendra Kumar Yadav to Kabirdham, Chavhan Kiran Gangaram to Balod, Yogesh Kumar Patel to Surajpur, Rai Gaurav Rampravesh to Balodabazar-Bhatapara, Umesh Prasad Gupta to Bijapur, and Sandeep Kumar Patel to Narayanpur as Superintendents of Police.

In another important posting, Robinson Guria has been designated Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Raipur Urban.

Administrative Significance:

The latest Chhattisgarh IPS transfer order reflects the government’s strategy of deploying experienced officers to critical operational assignments. The realignment is expected to improve police coordination, strengthen law enforcement, and enhance administrative effectiveness across the state.
