CBSE Leadership Revamp: Chairman Shifted, Secretary repatriated as Centre Orders Evaluation System Probe

The Central Government has initiated a major administrative overhaul at the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), transferring Chairman Rahul Singh and Secretary Himanshu Gupta while also ordering an investigation into alleged irregularities in the digital evaluation system used for the Class XII board examinations.

The move comes amid concerns over the examination assessment process, with authorities directing a detailed probe into the functioning of the digital evaluation mechanism. The administrative changes are being viewed as part of a broader effort to strengthen accountability and transparency within the country’s premier school education board.

In a related development, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, for the premature repatriation of Himanshu Gupta to his parent cadre, the Ministry of Home Affairs. The repatriation has been approved on administrative grounds and is subject to the condition of an extended cooling-off period.

Gupta, a 2012-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, had been serving as Secretary of CBSE. His return to the parent cadre, coupled with the transfer of the CBSE Chairman, marks a significant leadership transition at the board during a crucial phase of examination reforms and governance oversight.
