CBI summons senior IAS Officer Bishnupada Sethi in corruption case

In connection with an ongoing corruption investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Bishnupada Sethi, a senior IAS officer and Principal Secretary in the SC/ST Welfare and Odisha Language Department (IAS: 1995: OD). The summons required his attendance at the CBI’s Bhubaneswar office on December 11, 2024. However, Sethi did not appear before the agency.

The investigation pertains to a bribery case involving Chanchal Mukherjee, Group General Manager of the Central PSU, Bridge and Roof Company. Mukherjee was apprehended on October 15, 2024, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10 lakh from a real estate company in exchange for promising work orders. He was caught red-handed near Mayfair Hotel, Bhubaneswar, along with three other individuals.

CBI officials disclosed that Sethi’s name surfaced during the investigation as a suspected beneficiary in the bribery case, leading to the issuance of the summons.
