As of today, January 31, 2024, only the Chairman of the 16th Finance Commission has been officially appointed. Dr. Arvind Panagariya, former Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog and Professor at Columbia University, was appointed to the position on December 31, 2023.
The appointments of the remaining members are still ongoing. The government had earlier indicated that the members would be notified separately, but the specific names and details have not yet been publicly announced.
However, some media reports suggest that the following individuals are likely to be appointed as members:
Ajay Narayan Jha: Former Finance and Expenditure Secretary and member of the 15th Finance Commission.
Annie George Mathew: Former Special Secretary in the Department of Expenditure.
Niranjan Rajadhyaksha: Executive Director of Artha Global.
