The Government of India has appointed Ajay Seth (IAS: 1987: KN) as the new Finance Secretary. The position had been vacant since Tuhin Kanta Pandey (IAS: 1987: OR) assumed charge as SEBI Chief.
Seth, who currently serves as Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, also holds the additional charge of Secretary, Department of Revenue. As per convention, the senior-most Secretary in the Ministry of Finance is designated as the Union Finance Secretary.
