NHSRCL and L&T sign major agreement for Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project

The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has signed a crucial contract with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for the design, supply, and construction of tracks for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project in Maharashtra. Covering a 157 km double-line stretch between Mumbai and Zaroli village on the Maharashtra-Gujarat border, the project includes four stations and a rolling stock depot in Thane.

The high-speed rail corridor will adopt Japan’s advanced Shinkansen ballast-less slab track technology. Similar works are already underway in Gujarat, where over 200 km of viaduct has been built. NHSRCL, in collaboration with Japan Railway Technical Service (JARTS), has trained over 400 engineers in modern slab track construction.

As of September 2025, the mega project has completed 320 km of viaduct, 408 km of pier foundations, 17 river bridges, and 202 km of track bed. Significant progress is also visible in tunnel construction between BKC and Shilphata and mountain tunnels in Palghar. Once completed, the bullet train will revolutionize travel between Mumbai and Ahmedabad with world-class infrastructure.
