SECL marks 79th Independence Day with grand celebrations and commitment to sustainability

South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) celebrated India’s 79th Independence Day with patriotic zeal at the Vasant Vihar Sports Ground, Bilaspur. CMD Harish Duhan unfurled the National Flag, took the salute, and highlighted SECL’s role in ensuring energy security and building a self-reliant India.

Duhan emphasized SECL’s global recognition, citing the Gevra mine as Asia’s largest and the world’s second-largest, showcasing operational excellence and technological strength. SECL is pioneering sustainable mining by adopting Paste Fill Mining Technology, boosting underground coal production, and expanding its rail corridor projects for efficient coal transportation.

Sustainability remains at the heart of SECL’s operations, with over 30 million saplings planted and Miyawaki forest initiatives underway. The company has already installed 40 MW of solar capacity and targets 700 MW by 2030. CSR initiatives such as ‘SECL Ki Dhadkan’ for children with congenital heart diseases and ‘SECL ke Sushrut’ for free NEET coaching reflect its community commitment.

The celebrations included tributes to martyrs, cultural performances by school students, and felicitation of employees and children for their achievements. Women empowerment also took center stage, with women engineers in mines and the inauguration of Coal India’s first fully women-operated dispensary.
