Sanjay A. Lathkar appointed as IG (Security), Department of Atomic Energy

Senior IPS officer Sanjay A. Lathkar of the 1995 Jharkhand cadre has been appointed as Inspector General (Security) in the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India. His appointment, at the rank and pay of Additional Director General (ADG), follows a temporary upgradation of the post from level 14 to level 15 in the Pay Matrix for a period of two years. He will serve in this capacity until his superannuation on 30th September 2028.

With nearly 30 years of distinguished service, Shri Lathkar is known for his operational excellence, leadership, and strategic oversight in challenging law and order scenarios. He is a recipient of some of the country’s highest police honors—including the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (2002), the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (2015), and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (2022).

Beyond policing, Shri Lathkar has championed various social initiatives in rural and left-wing extremism-affected areas, focusing on youth empowerment, environmental sustainability, education, and sports. In his new role, he will lead the critical security architecture of India’s atomic and nuclear facilities, bringing to the post a wealth of experience and unwavering dedication to national security.
