In a significant announcement on Tuesday, V. Narayanan has been named the next Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Secretary of the Department of Space. He will succeed the current ISRO chief, S. Somnath, on January 14.
A seasoned scientist with ISRO, Narayanan is presently the Director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) in Valiamala, Kerala. With close to four decades of dedicated service in India’s space programme, he has played a pivotal role in advancing rocket and spacecraft propulsion technologies.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has confirmed Narayanan’s appointment to these prestigious positions for a tenure of two years, or until further orders. His extensive expertise and leadership experience are expected to steer ISRO into a new phase of innovation and excellence in space exploration.
