A. K. Rakesh, a seasoned IAS officer from the 1989 batch, has been designated as the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the Home Department in Gujarat. This appointment follows an order issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI)123.
Previously, Rakesh held the position of ACS in the Agriculture, Farmer Welfare, and Cooperation Department. Now, he will take on the additional responsibility of overseeing the state’s home affairs. His appointment comes in the context of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, where the ECI aims to ensure a level playing field by reshuffling key administrative positions1.
Notably, the ECI had directed the removal of home secretaries in several states, including Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, to maintain fairness and integrity in the electoral process1.
As part of this effort, Rakesh will now serve as the ACS for the Home Department in Gujarat, contributing to the efficient management of internal security and administration in the state.
