Jawalkar, who belongs to the 2003 batch of the Uttarakhand cadre, will now assume the crucial role of overseeing the state’s home affairs12.

His appointment comes after the Election Commission directed the removal of Shailesh Bagauli (IAS:2002:UK), who previously served as the Home Secretary of Uttarakhand, along with the home secretaries of five other states. Prior to this, Dilip Jawalkar was serving as the Secretary of Finance. Now, he will take charge as the Home Secretary, responsible for managing various aspects of the state’s internal security and administration1.

This change was prompted by the need to avoid conflicts of interest during the Lok Sabha elections, particularly for home secretaries who also held positions in their respective chief minister’s offices. The Election Commission’s directive led to the reshuffling of home secretaries in several states, including Uttarakhand1.
