Tamil Nadu IPS Reshuffle 2026: 56 IPS officers transferred in major administrative overhaul

The Tamil Nadu Government has carried out a major reshuffle of the Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre, transferring and posting 56 officers across various districts, commissionerates, and specialized units. The large-scale exercise is aimed at strengthening law enforcement, improving administrative efficiency, and enhancing policing across the state.

Among the key appointments, E.S. Uma has been posted as Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Headquarters, Greater Chennai Police, while K.S. Balla Krisshnan has been appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber Crime Cell), Greater Chennai Police. S. Selvaraj has been transferred as DCP, High Court Security, Chennai.

Several district police chiefs have also been assigned new responsibilities. S. Kuthalingam takes over as Superintendent of Police (SP), Salem district; A.C. Karthikeyan has been posted to Tiruvannamalai; Vivekananda Shukla to Cuddalore; V.V. Sai Praneeth to Tiruvallur; S. Jeyakumar to Dindigul; Gautham Goyal to Virudhunagar; and S. Madhivanan to Villupuram district.

The reshuffle includes significant appointments in specialized units as well. S. Vimala has been posted as SP, Economic Offences Wing Headquarters, Chennai; Dr. M. Sudhakar takes charge of the Non-Resident Indian Cell; Sujit Kumar has been appointed SP-I, Cyber Crimes Division, Chennai; and G. Nagojothi has been posted to the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Special Investigation Cell.

In the commissionerates, K. Muthu Kumar has been named DCP, Traffic-South, Greater Chennai Police; G. Gopi as DCP, Flower Bazaar; P. Thangadurai as DCP, Law and Order, North Coimbatore City; S.S. Maheswaran as DCP, Traffic, Coimbatore; and Dr. K. Prabakar as DCP, Traffic, Tambaram.

Other notable postings include N. Devanathan as SP, Madurai district; Kelkar Subramanya Balachandra as SP, Nagapattinam; Kambham Samuel Praveen Gowtham as SP, Theni; Vishwesh Balasubramaniam Shastri as SP, Tirunelveli; Dr. Bhukya Sneha Priya as SP, Mayiladuthurai; and Shristi Singh as SP, Tiruppur district.

The extensive reshuffle reflects the state’s focus on reinforcing policing capabilities, strengthening cybercrime investigations, and ensuring effective law-and-order management across Tamil Nadu.
