New Chief Justices appointed for Jharkhand and Kerala High Courts

The judiciary has witnessed key leadership changes with the appointment of Justice Mahesh Sharadchandra Sonak as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. Currently serving as a Judge of the Bombay High Court, Justice Sonak takes over the top judicial position in Jharkhand following the retirement of the incumbent Chief Justice on January 8, 2026. His elevation is expected to bring extensive judicial experience and administrative leadership to the Jharkhand High Court.

In another significant development, Justice Soumen Sen has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court. Justice Sen, who was serving as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, has been transferred to Kerala to assume the new role. His appointment comes after the retirement of Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar on January 9, 2026.

These appointments mark an important transition in the leadership of two major High Courts and reflect ongoing efforts to ensure continuity, efficiency, and judicial excellence within India’s higher judiciary.
