The Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit administered the oath of office to the new Chief Justice at a ceremony in the Raj Bhavan. Born in 1958, Justice Tahilramani started practice in the Bombay High Court as well as City Civil and Sessions courts in Mumbai, after enrolling in the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa in 1982. She also taught ‘Law of Crimes’ as a part-time teaching faculty in a law college between 1987 and 1993. Justice Tahilramani is the third woman chief justice of the Madras High Court. She was the acting chief justice of the Bombay High Court, was recently appointed Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, succeeding Justice Indira Banerjee, who has been elevated to the Supreme Court.
