The CBI has arrested a senior official of the RITES Limited, a railway entity, while allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 15 lakh from a representative of an infrastructure company, officials said here. The arrested official, K. Venkateshwara Rao, is the Group General Manager (Civil) at Secunderabad project office of the RITES Ltd, a Central government enterprise under the aegis of the Indian Railways which offers consultancy services in the fields of transport, infrastructure, and related technology.

A case was registered on 28.04.2018 U/s 120-B of IPC and Sec.7, 12, 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act 1988 against the Group General Manager (Civil), RITES, Project Office, Secunderabad on the allegations of demanding bribe of Rs.15 Lakh towards clearing of pending bills to the tune of Rs.1.5 crore(approx.) out of a total contract value of Rs. 11 crore of the said private firm.

The arrested official, K. It was further alleged that the RITES Ltd. had awarded contract works to a private Infrastructure firm based at Dindigul (Tamil Nadu) for Rs.11 crore and presently the bill amounting to Rs.1.5 crore (approx) was pending for clearance. The GGM, RITES allegedly demanded an illegal gratification of Rs.15 lakh for clearing the pending bills of the said private firm. It was also alleged that the Proprietor of the said private firm had deputed his project manager to deliver Rs.15 lakh as demanded.
