The Central Bureau of Investigation has yesterday arrested a Superintendent and a Clerk, both working in the Transport Department of Punjab, Chandigarh in a bribery case of Rs. one lakh.
CBI registered a case on a complaint alleging the demand of bribe by the accused working in the Transport Department, Punjab at Chandigarh. It was alleged that the complainant, also an employee of the same department, was dismissed on certain allegations against him and approached the office of Special Secretary, Transport Department, Punjab at Chandigarh requesting for cancellation of his dismissal order.
It was also alleged that the Special Secretary, Govt. of Punjab, Transport Department cancelled the dismissal order and further directed for conducting re-enquiry. It was further alleged that the Superintendent and the Clerk, Transport Department were dealing the complainant’s file had demanded a bribe of Rs.1.5 lakh from the complainant for clearing his matter.
The accused allegedly informed him, in case the bribe was not paid, the orders will be passed against the complainant. However, on the repeated request, the bribe amount was reduced to Rs.one lakh. CBI laid a trap in which both the officials were caught red handed while demanding & accepting bribe of Rs.50,000/- each. Searches are being conducted today at the residences of both the accused in Chandigarh and Mohali (Punjab).
